Ousmane Dembélé to pull out of France’s squad after picking up injury off the bench

PSG striker Ousmane Dembélé (28) had an evening to forget this Friday in Wroclaw. The 2024-2025 Ballon d’Or favourite is set to leave France’s squad after picking up an apparent hamstring injury against Ukraine. Dembélé was benched for France’s start to the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with Kylian Mbappé given the No. 9 role. France eventually won 2-0 against Ukraine.

Désiré Doué’s injury in the first half meant Dembélé was given the nod by Deschamps to come on at the start of the second half. The PSG striker occupied his previous position on the right wing. Unfortunately, his cameo off the bench has been cut short. Dembélé looked to have pulled his right hamstring ten minutes before full-time. The former Barcelona winger was replaced by Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike, who made his senior debut for Les Bleus.

According to TF1’s Saber Desfarges, Dembélé will leave France’s squad and miss out on Les Bleus’ second World Cup qualifier against Iceland on Tuesday at Paris’ Parc des Princes.
