Since the 5-0 Champions League win over Inter Milan and his Ballon d'Or, Ousmane Dembélé’s profile has soared, yet he has resisted overhauling his daily life. Brand and media approaches have multiplied, but he is being highly selective.
According to L'Équipe, he once hired city bikes to move around the capital unnoticed, a freedom that now quickly attracts crowds. He often needs private space in his regular restaurants.
His inner circle is unchanged, the same agent, friends and security staff, a set-up described as familial. He has not become a global rock star.
Commercial offers have poured in, but the stance is to avoid work that jars with his values. A major luxury fashion proposal and all betting partnerships were declined. An offer worth several hundred thousand euros for a single social post was also rejected to avoid becoming a walking advert.
Some deals were accepted, including partnerships with Italian fashion house Zegna, which made his Ballon d'Or suit last year, and haute perfumer Henry Jacques. More in cosmetics and home appliances could follow, though the volume might have been four or five times higher had he accepted the thousands of approaches. Media invitations have risen too, from international outlets and showbusiness, including an eye-catching appearance at the Enfoirés charity show, again with strict selection.
