Barcelona star Marc-André ter Stegen does not intend to give up a single euro of what is owed to him by the club across the remaining years of his contract.
This comes amid fresh confirmation of the German’s intention to stay put to fight for his place in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Ter Stegen’s future in Catalunya’s capital has of course long represented a headline talking point in the media in Spain.
As much comes with the 33-year-old sitting 3rd in the goalkeeper pecking order at Barcelona.
Ahead of next summer’s World Cup, Ter Stegen has therefore been left with two choices: stay put and risk missing out on a place in Germany’s squad, or depart on loan in January to seek out game time.
Even in the case of the former Borussia Monchengladbach standout opting for the latter, though, he appears to view his long-term future as being very much tied to Barcelona.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, despite the likely interest of the Camp Nou brass in finding an agreement on a contract termination:
‘Ter Stegen has no intention of reneging on his contract. He believes he helped the club when it needed him, whether by renewing his contract or deferring part of his salary to facilitate the registration of teammates.’
For this reason, it looks increasingly likely that Ter Stegen will remain on the Blaugrana’s books all the way through the summer of 2028.
