Southampton have made a decision on Sam Edozie's future but have one crucial condition regarding a transfer deal for the winger.

Southampton have already allowed the likes of Ronnie Edwards, Ryan Fraser, Damion Downs, and Gavin Baunu to depart the club this month, with Samuel Edozie potentially set to follow.

In 2022, Edozie came highly regarded from Manchester City. However, the 22-year-old has yet to make an appearance so far in 2025/26, having spent last season with RSC Anderlecht in Belgium.

The end of the summer window saw a flurry of activity, both ins and outs, with a few first-teamers leaving on temporary deals, such as Ben Brereton Diaz, Charlie Taylor, James Bree and Will Smallbone. Edozie, however, remained with the Saints.

It's fair to say that Edozie could have been utilised more by Will Still after the potential move for Edozie to head to Strasbourg did not materialise. The winger has instead been out of the picture and Tonda Eckert has not brought him back in.

Southampton want to sanction Samuel Edozie exit abroad

It had been reported that the Lewisham-born attacker was keen to force through a move to Belgian giants Club Brugge, but the Belgian transfer deadline passed with the 22-year-old remaining on the south coast.

Saints were holding out for a deal worth €10 million (£8.6 million) for Edozie in the summer, but he has just 18 months left on his deal and with no football to speak of to potentially increase his value and stock.

That said, there is still interest in Edozie's services this month, with more departures from St. Mary's expected before the deadline in just over a week's time.

Mike McGrath of The Telegraph is reporting Edozie has interest from English and foreign clubs following his loan stint with Anderlecht last season. He claims that the winger has trained every day this season despite not being in a single matchday squad, but Southampton as of now will only accept a moe that sees the ex-Man City academy man move abroad.

Despite being available for the campaign, both Still and Eckert have overlooked the wide forward. It remains to be seen whether Anderlecht or Club Brugge are among those who remain keen on Edozie.

Samuel Edozie's career so far has held promise, but he's stagnating at Saints

When speaking to FLW exclusively, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman expected Edozie to leave last summer, but the winger remained, and has now wasted a crucial year of development without regular first-team football.

His numbers don't jump off the page, but a 22-year-old has plenty of room to develop and improve before hitting their peak, which is why interest still remains regarding Edozie.

Southampton aren't utilising him, meaning it's pointless having him around. Cashing in makes the most sense, even if they are unable to get anything like £8 million+ for him now.

Still at a young enough age to fulfill some of the potential that was harnessed when at Man City, Edozie needs to seek an exit route out of St Mary's ASAP - but ideally before the English window slams shut on February 2, unless he moves to a club in a European league that has an extended deadline.
