Outrage at Barcelona over Real Madrid’s references to the Negreira case

According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona are outraged with the comments made in recent days by members of Real Madrid’s squad regarding the Negreira case, using the Clasico as an excuse to bring up the matter, which is currently being handled by the courts.

Within the Catalan club, there is also frustration at what they see as a double standard. On one hand, there is intense media backlash faced by Lamine Yamal for his remarks about Real Madrid in the light-hearted setting of the Kings League.

Meanwhile, there has been a distinct lack of criticism towards the comments made by Real Madrid players Thibaut Courtois and Jude Bellingham, alluding to the Negreira case – one in an official UEFA press conference and the other during the match itself.

What has been said?

Last Tuesday, before Real Madrid’s Champions League match against Juventus, Courtois referred to Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s claim of a “white hand” influencing referees, and said:

“I think Laporta says that about the white hand because he has to say it because of the Negreira case. I’ve never noticed that they’ve favoured us, quite the opposite in fact. Referees are human, I don’t feel that they’ve benefited us.”

Meanwhile, during the Clasico, cameras captured Bellingham shouting at Pedri: “Not even with Negreira!”

This came after the Barcelona midfielder asked for a red card for the Real Madrid star after a foul committed by him.

Barcelona very upset

As per the report, Barcelona are very upset about what they describe as a “witch hunt” against Lamine, while Real Madrid players can, in their view, freely make remarks about the Blaugrana in official public forums without any comparable reaction or controversy.

All of this comes against the backdrop of another Clasico that, according to Barcelona, was once again marked by refereeing decisions consistently going against them in key moments open to interpretation.

Following the 2-1 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu, the focus, though, will be on bouncing back strongly when the Catalans take on Elche this weekend.
