Over 15,000 back calls for expulsion of former Corinthians presidents

The Expulsion Now! Movement, an initiative organized by Corinthians fans and collectives, reached the milestone of 15,000 signatures on Monday night (16), as reported by Meu Timão. The group advocates for the expulsion of former presidents Andrés Sanchez, Duilio Monteiro Alves, and Augusto Melo, all of whom have been accused of possible crimes against the club during their time in office.

The mobilization aims to gather at least 25,000 signatures from fans, a goal that has already been 60% achieved. Specifically among club members, the group seeks to reach 450 signatures, of which 409 had already been collected by the time this article was published.

The initiative is supported by several Corinthians collectives and influencers who also lead the movement and advocate for swift analysis of the expulsion requests for the former presidents. Among the reasons presented for the removal of the former directors are allegations of using club resources for personal purposes, a practice highlighted in reports from the São Paulo Public Prosecutor’s Office involving Andrés Sanchez and Duilio Monteiro Alves, the refinancing contract for Neo Química Arena signed with Caixa Econômica Federal, the episode related to Taunsa, and the most recent case involving VaideBet. The latter resulted in the impeachment of Augusto Melo, who is currently a defendant in court facing charges including aggravated theft, criminal association, and money laundering.

Lifelong council members Andrés Sanchez and Duilio Monteiro Alves have been suspended from their duties at the club until investigations are concluded. Augusto Melo, who was removed from the presidency in August last year, has had his political powers suspended and currently holds no position at Corinthians. The request for urgency and expulsion from the membership is based on provisions of the General Sports Law, the Pelé Law, and the club’s own Social Statute, as detailed below:

Violation of the Corinthians Statute, Art. 28: conduct that tarnishes the club’s image;

Pelé Law (Law 9.615/98) Art. 18-C: Violation of the principles of administrative transparency, democratic management, and accountability;

General Sports Law (14.597/23) Arts. 64 and 67: Liability for reckless management and lack of transparency.

The deadline for collecting signatures extends until February 27. The main goal of the initiative is to pressure Corinthians’ internal bodies to schedule a vote on the proposal to expel the former presidents from the membership. Fans interested in signing the petition can do so directly on the Expulsion Now Movement’s website by filling out the online form.
