Manchester United have reportedly struck an agreement with the entourage of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

The Red Devils have been linked with a host of midfielders ahead of a summer overhaul that should conclude with at least two new arrivals in this department.

Over the past few months, the likes of Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba had dominated the headlines. While these names haven’t completely faded from Jason Wilcox’s shortlist, Guimaraes has recently emerged as THE top target, with Fabrizio Romano confirming talks between United and the player’s representatives.

Man Utd reportedly have an agreement with Bruno Guimaraes

Interestingly, the story began with Casemiro reportedly advising INEOS to sign Guimaraes as his replacement.

The 34-year-old is leaving United at the end of the season, and he believes his younger compatriot would be able to plug the hole, although his characteristics are slightly different.

According to a popular Premier League news source on social media (with more than 700k followers on X), Man Utd have already made astounding progress in their attempts to land the Newcastle man, claiming that the two parties have already managed to agree personal terms.

“Our trusted source in Manchester is informing us that Bruno Guimarães has agreed personal terms with Manchester United,” posted the insider.

“Bruno Guimarães’s advisors are pushing Manchester United to reach an agreement with Newcastle United.”

Can Man Utd seal a deal with Newcastle for Guimaraes?

If this news is true, then the next step for Man Utd is to open club-to-club talks with Newcastle and try to reach an agreement on the formula and transfer fee.

Therefore, the deal remains far from done. After all, MUFC fans would remember how the management had reportedly agreed personal terms with Baleba last summer, but were repelled by Brighton’s astronomical transfer, which was reported to be around £115 million.

Due to the player’s age and contract (expiring in 2018), the 28-year-old Newcastle star’s valuation shouldn’t be as high.

Transfermarkt estimates his value at €75 million (£65m), but one would expect the Magpies to resist the sale of one of their most important figures at the club, especially to one of their main Premier League rivals.

The Rio de Janeiro native has been plying his trade at Newcastle since January 2022, when he made the move from Olympique Lyonnais.

The Brazilian international has now established himself as one of the most complete midfielders in the English top flight. Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe described him as a ‘difference maker’.

Curiously, Man Utd are also tracking another Newcastle midfielder in the shape of Sandro Tonali. However, the Italian’s price tag could be north of £100 million, making Guimaraes the more attainable target.
