Groningen won 2-0 at Heerenveen to stay fifth in the Eredivisie, as Bernt Klaverboer's own goal and Thijmen Blokzijl's strike settled it at the Abe Lenstra Stadion.
The breakthrough arrived in the 58th minute when Klaverboer put through his own net.
Blokzijl then made the points safe from a Thom van Bergen pass (79.).
Hidde Jurjus replaced Etienne Vaessen before the interval and made three saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Heerenveen saw more of the ball with 56% possession and registered 16 attempts. Groningen were efficient, hitting the target six times from 12 efforts.
Heerenveen host Utrecht next. Groningen host Fortuna Sittard next.
