The Real Sociedad captain also scored the decisive goal that won Spain the last European Championship, adding six goals and four assists in qualifying.

The analysis ranks Kylian Mbappé first on 6.8 per cent and Harry Kane second on 5.9, with Oyarzabal level with Erling Haaland on 3.4 from a 160-player field.

He is rated ahead of Lionel Messi on 2.9 and Spain team-mate Lamine Yamal on 2.3. Cristiano Ronaldo follows on 2.1, then a 1.7 group of Julián Álvarez, Ousmane Dembélé and Vinicius Junior.

The top 15 is completed by Lautaro Martínez, Raphinha and Michael Olise on 1.4, Igor Thiago on 1.3 and Kai Havertz on 1.2. Under Luis de la Fuente, Oyarzabal has taken on the central attacking role. He will aim to better Spain’s return at Qatar, where Mbappé scored eight, Messi seven and Julián Álvarez four, and where Álvaro Morata led Spain with three.
