Clément Lenglet has joined Benfica to replace former captain Nicolás Otamendi, and his former coach Pablo Correa believes the Frenchman brings greater quality in possession.
"Otamendi is more aggressive, but less of a player with the ball at his feet. Clément has a better short and long game," said Correa, speaking to A Bola.
The centre-back arrives after a decade with Sevilla, Barcelona, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Atlético Madrid, taking on a new challenge at Estádio da Luz despite some errors in Madrid last season.
"Technically, Clément is not someone who will impress through sheer physical strength," Correa said. "He wins the ball through anticipation or positioning."
"He evolved a lot during his career, especially after Barcelona," he added. "He became very competent in the build-up."
"He plays with calmness in short exchanges and has a very precise long pass. His positional intelligence lets him hide the weaker points."
