Pablo Hernandez has committed his future to CD Castellón, signing a new deal until 2029 at Estadio SkyFi Castalia. It follows play-off heartbreak, a 94th-minute Almería winner ended their semi-final.
The club said in a statement that Hernandez and assistant Sergi Ripollés, both from the city, have renewed, praising his adaptability, character and team management, and highlighting a record of 20 wins, 10 draws and seven losses since his arrival.
The former Leeds United favourite, pivotal in promotion under Marcelo Bielsa, began coaching with Castellón’s reserves and led them to promotion. He was elevated to the senior set-up after a poor start under Johan Plat, then sparked a promotion push.
President Bob Voulgaris welcomed the agreement, calling stability a priority and portraying Hernandez as a role model who understands the club.
Known in West Yorkshire as El Mago, the Castelló de la Plana native takes pride in leading his hometown team and is determined to give everything for the fanbase. Former Elland Road team-mate Luke Ayling reacted on social media, calling him the magic man.
