Pablo Hernandez’s CD Castellon thrashed Real Valladolid to go top of Spain’s second tier, while Victor Orta came under renewed scrutiny.

Hernandez took charge of his boyhood club in September on an interim basis, winning his first three matches and losing only two in eight before landing the job permanently in November. They had suffered one defeat in 13 heading into Sunday.

Castellon were 3-0 up by half-time away at Valladolid on Sunday through Ousmane Camara and a Diego Barri brace, then Brian Cipenga struck on 81 minutes to complete a 4-0 victory that sent them top.

The result intensified focus on Orta, with Valladolid 18th in the 22-team division. Canal Pucela posted a video on X, reportedly of home fans chanting for the former Leeds sporting director to leave.

Hernandez’s rise follows his 2021 Leeds United farewell and he has credited Marcelo Bielsa’s training work, saying those drills can look puzzling at first yet have clear purpose and translate neatly to matchdays.

“Valencia and Leeds have been the clubs where I have spent the most time,” Hernandez told Flashscore in 2024. “Yes, obviously the clubs that are so important to me would be a dream [to manage], but it is something I am not considering at the moment. First, I want to learn a lot, I have a lot to learn, see if this is what really fulfils me and what I like, and in the future we will see what it holds.”
