Pachuca went to the Estadio Azteca and nabbed a draw with Club América in the CONCACAF Champions Cup semi-final first-leg.
Scorers: Zendejas 12′ ; Micolta 40′
It was a heated showdown in the capital as fellow Mexican club Pachuca, a team that has notoriously been the América’s kryptonite in knockout competitions, was in town for the first-leg of the semi-final.
The home crowd were treated to a quick start when United States international Alejandro Zendejas fired home from the right-wing to open the scoring.
Pachuca responded well however, snatching an all-important away goal from a set-piece when Norman Micolta headed home from close range to level the score on the night.
While América dominated the possession as the game wore on but struggled to carve out any major openings to take a much-needed lead to the Estadio Hidalgo.
The winner of the second-leg will await the winner of Monterrey and Columbus Crew in the final.
