SC Paderborn have completed the signing of Laurin Ulrich from VfB Stuttgart. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder joins on a one-year loan deal and will spend the 2026/27 season with the Bundesliga club.

Ulrich spent last season on loan at 1. FC Magdeburg, where he made 33 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga, scoring three goals and providing three assists. His performances earned him a regular role in Magdeburg’s midfield and convinced Stuttgart to continue investing in his development.

The VfB academy product has also extended his Stuttgart contract until 2028 before heading to Paderborn. There is reportedly no option to buy included in the loan agreement, meaning Stuttgart will retain control over the player’s future.

Paderborn’s sporting director Sebastian Lange praised Ulrich’s technical ability and intelligence, highlighting the midfielder’s experience despite his young age.

The move is Paderborn’s third loan deal of the summer and contributes to a club-record level of spending during the current transfer window. For Ulrich, meanwhile, the switch offers another opportunity to establish himself at a higher level before returning to Stuttgart.
