Palmeiras beat Grêmio, keep edge over Fluminense atop the Brasileirão

Palmeiras remain firmly at the top of the Brazilian Championship. This Thursday, the São Paulo side beat Grêmio 2-1 at Arena Barueri in the 9th round of the competition and kept their lead over Fluminense.The standout of the match was Marlon Freitas, who scored both of Palmeiras’ goals. Grêmio pulled one back through Carlos Vinícius but could not avoid defeat away from home.With the result, Palmeiras move up to 22 points and remain top of the Brasileirão. Fluminense, who had beaten Corinthians earlier in the round, are in second place with 19 points, three behind the São Paulo team.

In the next round, Fluminense face Coritiba this Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Couto Pereira. Palmeiras, meanwhile, visit Bahia at Arena Fonte Nova on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
