Palmeiras goalkeeper Carlos Miguel walked out of a mixed-zone interview after a question about Flamengo, following a 1-0 home defeat to Cerro Porteño that delayed their Libertadores progress.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the result halted immediate qualification and irritated Carlos Miguel, who ended the media chat. Before leaving, he said losing is never good but rejected the idea of a poor moment, stressing Palmeiras are top of the Brasileirão with a sizeable advantage and that they focus on their own work. He accepted they had lost first place in the Libertadores and admitted they wanted to clinch at Allianz Parque, urging focus on the next game.
He argued the same football delivered the Paulista title and the current league lead and said they could beat any team. He rejected portrayals of Palmeiras as a terrible side, called them the biggest club in São Paulo, and vowed to keep fighting in all competitions.
The table tells a tighter story. Palmeiras have 35 points, Flamengo are on 31 with a game in hand, so a win this weekend would cut the gap to one. With that extra fixture, Flamengo can go top under their own steam.
Flamengo host Palmeiras on Saturday 23 at 21:00 Brasília time at the Maracanã in round 17 of the Brasileirão.
