Palmeiras held by Universitario, reach Libertadores quarter-finals

With an Allianz Parque in a classification climate since the beginning of ticket sales, Palmeiras drew with Universitario-PER in the return match of the 2025 Libertadores quarterfinals 0-0. In the first leg, the Verdão won the Peruvians 4-0. In the quarterfinals, the Verdão will face River Plate-ARG. The first game will be in Argentina, being decided at the Palmeiras home.

First half

In the ninth minute, Universitario came close to scoring after a defensive mistake by Palmeiras. However, the goal was disallowed because there was a player in an irregular position, ahead of Weverton, considered interference in the field of vision of the Palmeiras goalkeeper. The play was reviewed by VAR.

In the 22nd minute, Palmeiras responded with a good play by Giay on the right. The full-back applied a beautiful half-moon dribble, but ended up missing the cross, wasting the opportunity. The first half was lukewarm in terms of offensive creation. Palmeiras produced little in attack and ended up making a dull first half, below expectations.

In the 47th minute of the first half, Palmeiras was very close to opening the scoring. In one of the few better-worked offensive constructions of the team, Maurício received on the left and took care of the cross into the area. Allan appeared free between the Universitario defenders and tested strong, but the ball exploded on the crossbar of Britos, who only watched the play. On the rebound, the Peruvian defense managed to clear the danger.

Second half

Palmeiras started the second half suffering from the pressure of the Peruvian team. The high mark of Universitario exposed the alviverde team, and the defensive line could not organize itself, leaving spaces and allowing dangerous approaches to Weverton's goal.

In the 76th minute, Palmeiras returned to bother in the attack. After a play on the right, the ball was left to Vitor Roque, who risked a beautiful volley inside the area. The shot, however, deflected off the Peruvian defense and went out of bounds, bringing danger and eliciting sighs from the alviverde crowd.

In the 80th minute, Palmeiras built a good play on the right side. Khellven tabled with Maurício, advanced at speed and hit hard on the exit of the goalkeeper. The Peruvian goalkeeper, well-positioned, managed to make the defense and avoid what could be the goal of Verdão.

In the 86th minute, Universitario almost managed to surprise at Allianz Parque. After a quick offensive transition, the Peruvian team finished with great danger, but Weverton appeared at the decisive moment and made a great save, saving Palmeiras from being defeated in front of their crowd, who attended in large numbers, considering the context of the game. Over 33,000 Palmeiras fans present.

Verdão returns to the field next Monday (25), at 19h (Brasília time), at Allianz Parque, in a game valid for the twenty-first round of the Brazilian Championship. The game will mark the debut of the new third jersey for the 2025 season.
