Palmeiras have opened talks to sign Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada from Atlético de Madrid. The club also want the Colombian Arias, formerly of Fluminense.

Diego Simeone has used Almada sparingly, and Atlético de Madrid have put him on the market, according to Cadena Ser.

Atlético de Madrid value a deal at €20 million, R$125.5 million, for 50% of his economic rights.

An Argentina international, Almada was a leading figure in Botafogo’s 2024 Libertadores triumph, earning national-team call-ups where he also impressed.

His limited minutes in Spain are a concern with the World Cup starting in June. The player and his representatives want a club where he will play and prepare for the tournament.

Palmeiras are approaching any move with caution given the high costs and the added complexity around a player who left Brazilian football with a high profile.
