Palmeiras are drawing up a bespoke conditioning plan for Paulinho during the World Cup pause as the forward continues his comeback from a right tibia injury and a second operation.

According to Nosso Palestra, the club’s health and performance department is preparing specific sessions to maintain his fitness and avoid any regression, with staff hoping he can play more than 45 minutes once action resumes.

Paulinho returned to the pitch against Santos on two May and has since featured in six matches, with minutes carefully managed. He also scored the third goal against Flamengo.

His workload has been increased incrementally, with training volume controlled between fixtures.

Palmeiras are keen not to risk any physical discomfort after his prolonged lay-off following the second surgery.

The progress has been viewed positively by the medical and performance staff, and the number 10 has reported feeling well after games and as the daily load has risen.
