Palmeiras have mapped out Flaco López’s next steps, with the Argentine forward set for a post-World Cup meeting about an improved deal after emerging as a key figure under Abel Ferreira.
According to Nosso Palestra, the club intend to offer the number 42 a contract upgrade as recognition for his progress and growing influence in Ferreira’s system.
The board’s plan is to reinforce the sporting project and signal a desire to keep him. Internally, Palmeiras do not plan to sell any leading players in this window and want to preserve the team’s core for the rest of the season.
Even so, there is caution. Strong European interest is expected after the World Cup, particularly if López maintains his level and remains in the spotlight with Argentina.
A stay is viewed as very difficult if bids top 40 million euros, around R$260 million at current rates. That assessment is shared by the club and the player’s camp, who will wait for the market to move before deciding his future.
For now, López’s focus is on the World Cup. An Argentina reserve, he has earned minutes late in the tournament and further boosted his international value, which could make retaining him one of the board’s biggest challenges this window.
