Although the winter transfer window has closed for FC Barcelona for several weeks now, the Catalans have recently been involved in an operation for the departure of Vitor Roque to Brazil, where the transfer window does not close till February 28th.
The operation has been in the news for the last few days and is now taking its decisive phase, as there are only 5 days left till the market closes.
The Brazilian side Palmeiras is particularly pressing to complete this move as soon as possible, and according to SPORT, their President, Leila Pereira, has set a deadline of 48 hours to complete this move, as she does not want to take this operation to the very last day of the transfer window.
The last and final offer from the Brazilian side has been for a transfer of 80% of Roque’s rights in exchange for €25 million. The Catalans will keep the rest of the 20% rights on the player, and these terms are quite similar to what Barcelona had agreed with Real Betis in the last summer transfer window.
However, contrary to previous reports, Palmeiras have ruled out getting the striker on loan, as they want to make him a key player in their team, who will get the number 9 shirt and will have the highest wage in their squad. They have placed full trust in him so there are no doubts about their long-term plans with the young forward.
The Brazilian side has been successful in ensuring that they will not have to pay anything extra to Real Betis, as they believe the Seville side will already benefit from this move by saving on the salary of the striker. Some reports suggested that the Andalusians will be getting €2 million from this move, but these reports are not true.
Roque himself has also been open to return to Brazil, especially as Palmeiras are offering him a highly rewarding long-term contract. His agent, Andre Cury, has been key to bring the operation to this point, as his good relations with all the three involved clubs were pivotal.
Meanwhile, Barcelona remain open for all kinds of scenarios, and will not push him to accept this move, as they still see him as a bet for the future. But there is no doubt that they will take this opportunity to cut their losses with the Brazilian starlet.
