Palmeiras are into the Libertadores last 16 again after beating Junior Barranquilla 4-1 at Allianz Parque on Thursday 28. Jhon Arias scored twice, with Allan and Andreas Pereira also on target.
It sealed a 10th consecutive knockout appearance, and they are the only side to have advanced from the group stage in every edition from 2017 to 2026. Nosso Palestra notes the achievement as a historic milestone.
The streak is the tournament’s third longest, behind River Plate’s 12 straight between 1995 and 2006 and 11 between 2015 and 2025. Palmeiras also extended Brazil’s national best, reaching 19 last 16 appearances, including 10 in a row.
Despite the win, Group F leadership eluded them. Cerro Porteño won and finished first with 13 points, Palmeiras ended on 11 as runners-up. Sporting Cristal had six, Junior Barranquilla four.
Abel Ferreira’s side will be in the runners-up pot for the last 16 draw and could face any group winner, including a derby against Corinthians.
The night also marked Palmeiras’ 100th home Libertadores match against foreign opposition. Their record stands at 76 wins, 14 draws and 10 defeats, with 252 scored and 68 conceded.
Across all competitions and friendlies against South American clubs in Brazil, they have passed 400 goals. The overall ledger shows 164 games, 115 wins, 29 draws, 20 defeats, 403 for and 143 against.
They continue their pursuit of a fourth Libertadores title.
