Palmeiras reached the Libertadores semi-finals after a penalty shootout win over LDU in Quito, capping a historic sequence across Tuesday and Wednesday in which São Paulo, Santos and Corinthians were all knocked out.

Corinthians had drawn 1-1 away to Estudiantes, but lost 1-0 at Neo Química Arena and missed a last-minute penalty, exiting 2-1 on aggregate.

Hours later, LDU beat Palmeiras 3-2 in normal time to level it at 3-3, before Carlos Miguel saved two spot-kicks and the Verdão advanced 4-3 in the shootout.

Each club faced a different opponent in 2026, so the rivals’ defeats were not caused by enforced state derbies.

The result sends Palmeiras into a record-extending 13th Libertadores semi-final, their seventh in the last nine editions. They face Fluminense, first at Maracanã then at Nubank Parque. Abel Ferreira will be suspended for the opener after his red card against LDU.
