Palmeiras have removed the “maior campeão do Brasil” slogan from their team bus at the start of 2026. According to Coluna Do Fla, the change followed a season in which they finished runners-up to Flamengo in the Brasileirão and the Libertadores in 2025.
The new livery now displays only the club’s name, Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras. On social media, Flamengo supporters mocked the redesign at the club led by president Leila Pereira.
Fans referenced Danilo’s headed goal in the Libertadores final, said Palmeiras were left with nothing, and joked that “fax” trophies do not count, a nod to titles later recognised by the CBF.
With the Supercopa do Brasil and the Brasileirão won in 2025, Flamengo now have 18 national titles, nine Brasileirões, five Copas do Brasil, three Supercopas and one Copa dos Campeões. Palmeiras did not win a trophy in 2025 and fell behind.
Counting championships later recognised from before 1971, Palmeiras also list 18 national honours, 12 Brasileirões, four Copas do Brasil, one Supercopa and one Copa dos Campeões. However, as four pre-date 1971, excluding them would leave the São Paulo club on 14.
Palmeiras had not claimed to have the most Libertadores titles in Brazil, otherwise that too would have needed removing. On 29 November last year both clubs began as three-time champions, before Danilo’s goal delivered Flamengo a fourth, the country’s only four-time winners.
