Arsenal have reportedly been monitoring Palmeiras defender Luis Benedetti for several months, with speculation suggesting that the Gunners might have pursued him during the last transfer window. Despite this, no approach was made, and the club will now have to wait until the next window opens to make a formal bid.
During the previous transfer period, Arsenal reinforced their defensive options by signing two players who are ready to contribute immediately. In contrast, Benedetti would require time to adapt to the intensity and pace of the Premier League, which may have influenced the club’s decision not to prioritise his signing at that stage.
Nevertheless, Arsenal remain interested in Benedetti’s signature. The Brazilian defender has attracted attention from other European clubs, notably Barcelona, who appear more proactive in their pursuit. According to AS, the Catalan club is reportedly willing to offer 12 million euros for the player. However, Palmeiras are said to be seeking a higher fee, with the Brazilian side insisting that any sale must meet a minimum of 15 million euros.
The situation suggests a competitive race for Benedetti, with Barcelona currently appearing to hold the advantage in terms of the seriousness of their interest. Arsenal’s strategy may be to monitor developments carefully before committing to negotiations, weighing the financial implications against the potential benefit of securing the player.
A key consideration for Arsenal is the timing of any potential signing. Given Benedetti’s need to acclimatise to English football, immediate game time would likely be limited if he were to join now. This raises questions over whether the Gunners should pursue him aggressively, particularly if it involves meeting Palmeiras’ valuation of 15 million euros.
Ultimately, while Benedetti represents a long-term prospect for Arsenal’s defensive line, careful planning will be necessary to ensure that any investment aligns with the club’s broader strategy and squad requirements. Patience may be required, as the Gunners weigh their interest against other transfer priorities and the level of competition from clubs such as Barcelona.
