Palmeiras consider academy full-back Arthur non-negotiable after he stepped up during an injury-hit spell at left-back. According to Nosso Palestra, the board would only revisit that stance in the event of offers deemed irresistible.

Palmeiras ended the first part of 2026 with the Paulista title, top of the Campeonato Brasileiro, and into the last 16 of both the Copa do Brasil and the Conmebol Libertadores.

First-choice left-back Piquerez had ankle surgery in early April after an injury in Uruguay’s friendly against England. He accelerated his recovery to target the World Cup, and missed a long run of games for Palmeiras.

Jefté, signed in 2025 as deputy, suffered muscle problems. He underwent surgery on Sunday after twisting his right knee during the match against Chapecoense.

With both sidelined, Arthur took the shirt, delivered quickly under pressure, and impressed in key games across April and May.

He had turned down bids at the start of the season in pursuit of a senior chance at Palmeiras. After the World Cup, Abel Ferreira faces a choice at left-back, whether to keep the youngster in the side or restore Piquerez.
