Palmeiras: Vitor Roque’s hearing for homophobic post postponed

The forward Vitor Roque will be judged by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) next Wednesday (19th) at 10 am (Brasília time) for a homophobic post published on social media after Palmeiras defeated São Paulo at Morumbi, in a match valid for the 27th round of the Série A of the Brazilian Championship, in October. Initially, the trial was scheduled for Monday (17th), but the date was changed.

Palmeiras offered a disciplinary transaction agreement to Vitor Roque at the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD). The case is with the court's prosecution. If the proposal is accepted, the number 9 will not miss any games in the final stretch of the Brasileirão. In this modality, suspension is exchanged for another type of punishment such as a fine, and the case is closed. The information was initially published by Uol.

The trial will be conducted by the Disciplinary Commission of the STJD. The player was reported by the Prosecution due to the post he made on October 5th.

In a post with 13 photos, the last one showed a tiger biting the neck of a deer. Shortly after, the player deleted the image.

He will be framed under article 243, which provides for a penalty of up to ten games for cases of prejudice based on ethnic origin, race, sex, color, age, condition of being elderly or having a disability.

Art. 243-G. To practice a discriminatory, disdainful, or outrageous act related to prejudice based on ethnic origin, race, sex, color, age, condition of being elderly or having a disability: PENALTY: suspension of five to ten matches, if practiced by an athlete, even if a substitute, coach, doctor, or member of the technical staff, and suspension for a period of one hundred and twenty to three hundred and sixty days, if practiced by any other natural person subject to this Code, in addition to a fine, from R$ 100.00 (one hundred reais) to R$ 100,000.00 (one hundred thousand reais).

Palmeiras issued the following statement at the time:

“As soon as it became aware of a post made by forward Vitor Roque on a social network, on the night of this Sunday, Palmeiras' management spoke with the young player and explained to him that provocations like this no longer fit in football, as they can generate violence. The athlete understood and promptly deleted the image from his account,” said the club's press office.
