Xabi Alonso has revealed that Cole Palmer had an influential role in persuading Morgan Rogers to sign for Chelsea in the summer.
Chelsea beat competition from Arsenal to sign Rogers from Aston Villa in a £117m club record deal. The 24-year-old has made animpressive start to his Chelsea career, scoring twice and providing four assists in five appearances.
Rogers has built an encouraging understanding with Cole Palmer, a connection first built during their time together in the Manchester City academy.
The pair combined brilliantly after coming off the bench at half-time during Chelsea's comeback win over Leeds United in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
Palmer scored twice to kickstart the comeback, with Rogers racking up three assists in the 6-3 win at Stamford Bridge.
Alonso believes their close friendship has helped their chemistry on the pitch for Chelsea, and revealed Palmer played his part in luring Rogers to West London.
"I would say [it helps] a lot. Even before they were playing together they were so connected," Alonso said at hispre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea's fixture with Hull City this weekend.
"We were following this connection for a few weeks before the transfer happened and Cole was very influential. He played an important role, Morgan as well. We are happy that this happened now."
Asked if he had ever had influence on a potential signing like Palmer did with Rogers, Alonso added: "Probably, but not as much as Cole!"
