Panama seeks first victory against Ukraine in FIFA U-20 World Cup

MIAMI – The FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 continues on Tuesday, as Concacaf nation Panama seeks its first victory of the campaign against Ukraine in Group B at Estadio Elías Figueroa Brander in Valparaíso, Chile.
Panama fell by the minimal difference (2-3) against Paraguay in its opening match. Martín Krug placed Panama in the lead in the 5’, before the Paraguayans struck two unanswered. Giovany Herbert tied for Panama in the 76’, but Paraguay would take the full three points in stoppage time.
Ukraine won 2-1 against Korea Republic to begin its campaign. Hennadiy Synchuk and Oleksandr Pyshchur scored in the first half to help the European side to victory.

This will be the third all-time meeting between Ukraine and Panama in FIFA U-20 World Cups. The Panamanians have yet to defeat the Europeans, having suffered two losses in two matches.

Ukraine earned a 3-1 win.
The goals came from Oleksandr Aliyev (20’ pen, 22’) and Maksym Feshchuk (32’). Panama’s lone tally came from an own goal by Volodymyr Arzhanov (26’).

Ukraine claimed a convincing 4-1 victory.
The European side scored through Danylo Sikan (23’, 45+1’), Denys Popov (41’) and
Sergiy Buletsa (83’). Ernesto Walker (50’) netted Panama’s only goal.
It is worth noting that this will be Panama’s ninth match against European opposition in the tournament’s history. The “Canaleros” hold a record of 0 wins, 1 draw and 7 defeats (GF-4, GA-15). Their most recent outing against a European side was precisely the quarterfinal clash against Ukraine in Poland 2019 (L 1-4, June 3, 2019).
