Leonardo Pantaleão says he has received threats from Corinthians councillors and will not attend or chair a vote on the possible removal of Romeu Tuma Júnior. According to Meu Timao, he has faced pressure and talk of impeachment if he stays away.
Club president Osmar Stabile has called an extraordinary session for 23 March at the Teatro do Corinthians in Parque São Jorge, first call 18:00, second 19:00, invoking article 112, item 6, of the Statute to justify urgency.
His notice cites allegations of irregular conduct, a disciplinary case in progress and developments from the 9 March meeting, and argues Tuma Júnior cannot conduct proceedings as he is under investigation, so Pantaleão should preside. Pantaleão has reiterated he will not take part, saying the meeting breaches the Statute and that threats have hardened his stance.
In a note earlier in the week, he said he was blindsided by the convocation, had no prior knowledge of the agenda and pointed to a formal defect under article 82, section II, b, saying only the president of the Conselho Deliberativo can convene the body. He questioned the session’s legitimacy and stressed adherence to the Statute.
A group of lifetime councillors is trying to mount impeachment proceedings that could also unseat him as CD vice-president and as chair of the Ethics and Discipline Commission.
Members have lodged a complaint with São Paulo’s Public Prosecutor alleging irregularities in Stabile’s call. Prosecutor Cássio Conserino said he lacks direct remit over the club’s internal affairs, but sent the case to the Public and Social Property unit that is already probing spending by former presidents Andrés Sanchez, Duilio Monteiro Alves and Augusto Melo, and assessing possible judicial intervention.
If the 23 March session proceeds without Tuma Júnior and without Pantaleão, it could be chaired by Maria Angela Ocampos, first secretary of the Ethics Commission. On 31 May 2025 she joined allies of Augusto Melo in a failed bid to sideline Tuma and roll back decisions, including the impeachment process against Melo.
