Pape Gueye wins Sporty LALIGA MVP 25/26 as LaLiga’s best African player

Pape Gueye has been named Sporty LALIGA MVP 25/26, the award for LaLiga’s best African player. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the accolade crowns a stellar campaign for the Villarreal midfielder.
In 2025/26 he made 30 LaLiga appearances, logging 2,143 minutes, with five goals and two assists, including 26 starts. He also featured in seven Champions League matches, totalling 527 minutes, without a goal or assist.
His domestic cup involvement brought two Copa del Rey outings and 165 minutes. Across all competitions for Villarreal he recorded 39 games, 2,835 minutes, five goals and two assists.
Internationally, he excelled at the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. He scored the only goal of the final in extra time as Senegal beat Morocco 1-0, securing their second continental title, and was named player of the match.
Gueye said it was his first individual award and that he was proud to represent Senegal in LaLiga, adding thanks to his team-mates and head coach.
His form with club and country now leads into the 2026 World Cup, where he is expected to take on greater responsibility with Senegal.
