According to Globo.com, the midfielder had been in the United States with his family and cut short his holiday to return early.

Released by Brazil earlier in the week after their elimination, he coordinated his trip back to Rio with Flamengo and chose to travel with relatives. By law he was entitled to 10 days of leave, but he will not take the rest period.

The priority is to have him available for the Libertadores meeting with Cruzeiro in August. The injury was rated serious and he would only have featured again at the World Cup in a possible final.

Flamengo had already agreed that anyone needing more intensive physical work would come back sooner, a plan followed by Arrascaeta, Saúl and Léo Ortiz.

Alex Sandro, Danilo and Léo Pereira are expected at the training ground on the 16th and will take a few days off. Arrascaeta, De la Cruz and Varela are already in training.
