Lucas Paquetá says Leonardo Jardim has asked Flamengo to play more vertically before the Libertadores quarter-final first leg against Independiente del Valle in Quito on Thursday.

"Little by little he is adding parts of his own style, while making clear the group had already won big titles and kept a solid game plan," Paquetá told the official Libertadores account on social media.

Kick-off is at 21:30 Brasília time at the Estádio Olímpico Atahualpa.

"The idea was not to lose that base. They are only adjustments on top of what was being done with new concepts."

"A recurring demand is for a more vertical game, recover possession and go for goal with objectivity at all times."

"The group is excellent, extremely united and focused on the same objective. Each player does his role seeking to evolve and win matches," said Jorginho.

Since Jardim arrived, Flamengo have played 33 matches, winning 21, drawing eight and losing four, with 63 scored and 24 conceded.

ESPN will show it on pay TV, with Disney streaming. The second leg is on 17 September at the Maracanã, and the winners will face Estudiantes or Corinthians in the semi-finals.
