Lucas Paquetá took another step towards a Flamengo return by training with the squad at Ninho do Urubu on Monday after a left hamstring injury. According to Globo.com, his involvement puts selection in the hands of head coach Leonardo Jardim.

The coaching staff will decide whether he is available to face Internacional on Wednesday. This was his first session with the group after completing his transition work, and he trained in full.

Jardim recently left Léo Ortiz out against São Paulo because the defender had only a few days with the group after injury. Paquetá has had a shorter period out, which could accelerate his inclusion.

He has been sidelined since the World Cup, sustaining the injury in Brazil’s win over Japan in the second phase of the tournament. He began rehabilitation with the national team in the United States, then reported back to Flamengo.

The primary target is for Paquetá to be available for the Libertadores meeting with Cruzeiro in August. With his medical clearance, Flamengo’s only current absentees are Gonzalo Plata, right knee tendinitis, and Luiz Araújo, who remains in physical transition.
