Brazil head for Las Vegas to face Paraguay eager for a change in their luck after a deeply frustrating opening stalemate with Costa Rica at the Copa America.

Dorival Junior’s team utterly dominated that contest but couldn’t score the goals to translate that onto the scoreboard.

Paraguay were beaten by Colombia in their Group D opener, with the damage done before half-time, and Brazil will be acutely aware they must take care of business here with the Colombians representing one of the world’s in-form teams right now.

These two sides will clash at the Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, Nevada with kick-off set for 02:00 BST on Saturday June 29th.

Selecao left feeling frustrated

Brazil are probably still pondering how they left the SoFi Stadium in California without a goal in that scoreless draw with Costa Rica.

They had 70 per-cent possession, 19 attempts at goal including seven on target and nine corners to one. They had 90 dangerous attacks, while Costa Rica had only two actions in the Brazilian penalty box, compared to 49 for Selecao. And yet, it was a point each at the end.

The nine-time Copa America winners cannot afford another slip up at Allegiant Stadium in Sin City or their risk of a second group-stage exit in four editions of this tournament will be there for all to see.

Paraguay unable to frustrate Colombians

Boss Daniel Garnero sent his troops out to try and frustrate a Colombia side that is enjoying a rich vein of form when they met in Houston, Texas on Monday.

For half an hour it worked quite well, but a quick-fire double from Daniel Munoz and Jefferson Lerma soon put paid to their plans.

Typically, La Albirroja are not to be relied on for their powers of recovery, as that Copa America opening defeat now means they have lost 18 consecutive matches after conceding the opening goal.

Paraguay (58th) are a long way behind Brazil (4th) in the FIFA rankings and they face a daunting test in Las Vegas to avoid another reverse. They have lost their last four meetings with Brazil without scoring, a run dating back to the 2019 Copa America when they were beaten on penalties after a scoreless draw in Porto Alegre against the hosts.

Paraguay vs Brazil Team News

Guilherme Arana and Eder Militao were called into the Brazilian starting XI for the draw with Costa Rica, though with both men deployed at the back, the problems were essentially ahead of them.

Ballon d’Or contender Vinicius Junior was on the left-hand side of a three-man attack with Real Madrid teammate Rodrygo deployed centrally and Barcelona’s Raphinha on the right, as West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta played behind them.

Girona’s 20-year-old striker Savio and Palmeiras youngster Endrick were sent on midway through the second half, with Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli given just seven minutes late on. Dorival Junior may elect to shuffle the pack now, with Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz pushing for a recall.

Rodrigo Morinigo started in goal for Paraguay’s loss to Colombia on the occasion of his first cap, while Damian Bobadilla came off the bench for just his second appearance.

Brighton forward Julian Enciso, 20, netted his first international goal in his 15th appearance.
