Boca captain Leandro Paredes has offered public backing to youngster Tomás Aranda after the playmaker suffered a right-ankle fibula break, saying in an Instagram post: “Estamos todos con vos”.
He also labelled the academy product a “joya” on Instagram Stories.
Aranda was hurt during Wednesday morning’s session at Boca Predio, his foot stuck in the turf as he tried to turn and his ankle twisted awkwardly. He will undergo surgery and could miss the rest of the season.
Medical staff diagnosed a syndesmosis injury, a rupture of the ligament linking fibula and tibia in his right ankle, and chose surgery over an orthopaedic boot.
The operation is scheduled for Thursday 27 in the afternoon at Sanatorio Otamendi. Recovery is estimated at between three and four months, so he is likely to miss first-team minutes until next year.
The Xeneize have suffered a serious blow after a positive start to the semester under coach Rodolfo “Vasco” Arruabarrena. Aranda had quickly become a fixture for the “Vasco” and in the closing days of Claudio Úbeda’s tenure, while Paredes now faces the loss of a key midfield partner in the coming months.
