Paris Brunner (18) has featured in both of Borussia Dortmund’s games in Asia, showing a high level of commitment on the pitch but head coach Nuri Sahin has called for more from the German attacker as he looks to break into the first team.
“We need to develop his decision-making skills,” said Sahin. When referring to every young player, he added: “I told the boys very clearly: ‘the door is open for everyone,’ but I can’t push them through. They have to go through it themselves.”
And that seems to be the case with Brunner. The 18-year-old has often looked disinterested off of the pitch, but has showed commitment on it. With a contract until 2025, Borussia Dortmund want to tie Brunner down to a new contract but, according to Ruhr Nachrichten, no breakthrough has yet been made despite intensive negotiations.
Brunner’s entourage reportedly want their client to be a part of Dortmund’s professional team this season, training on a permanent basis, something which Die Schwarzgelben don’t want to commit to. Yet to play a minute of professional football, BVB could imagine Brunner in the U23 squad, whom play in the 3. Liga, as they look to give him a pathway to the first team.
