According to Sud Ouest, the Paris administrative court has upheld the FFF sanction excluding Girondins de Bordeaux from national competitions, so the team will start in Régional 1, the sixth tier.

The ruling came a day after a hearing contesting the CNOSF conciliator’s 14 August advice to maintain the exclusion, and means no reinstatement in National 1, the fourth tier.

Bordeaux were set to play a 19:00 friendly at Le Haillan against Stade Bordelais. They are registered in Group B of Régional 1 in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine league, opening away at Saint-Médard-en-Jalles on 29 August.

The fall has accelerated in recent years, with relegation to Ligue 2 in 2022 then administration in 2024, which ended their professional status and a renowned academy.

On Friday morning the judge handling the urgent application was still awaiting a DNCG opinion on whether the new project could be validated after receiving further material from the club late on Thursday. Earlier, takeover candidate Sparta Capital and investor Dominique Delport argued, via lawyer Pierre-Olivier Sur, that they now had financial viability.

Gérard Lopez transferred his shares on 31 July to Sparta Capital for one euro and waived his claims and a clawback clause, developments that had raised hopes of a favourable view. It did not follow, despite Sparta Capital providing €10.6m to fund 2026-2027, clear arrears and meet continuation plan deadlines. The new board said they regretted the outcome but had taken note and asked the FFF’s COMEX for an immediate re-examination.

The decision will please 10 National 1 presidents who earlier this month warned that a late Bordeaux return could disrupt the 16-team Group B schedule days before the season, which begins Saturday, and undermine competitive fairness.
