Appearing on BFM Business this Wednesday, Paris FC president Pierre Ferracci discussed his club’s summer transfer window and the ambitions for their first season back in Ligue 1.
Backed by the Arnault family and Red Bull, Paris FC could have splashed out upon their return to the top flight. Instead, the newly-promoted side opted for a measured approach. Reinforcements included several familiar Ligue 1 profiles such as Moses Simon, Pierre Lees-Melou, Hamari Traoré, and Willem Geubbels, while a significant investment was made to bring in Brazilian defender Otavio from Porto.
More expensive pursuits – like Nantes’ Matthis Abline and Saint-Étienne’s Lucas Stassin – ultimately failed to materialise. “We’ve had an intelligent transfer window, and we have a squad that can play for what we want: to stay up without too much concern,” Ferracci explained.
The Paris FC president revealed that the club had initially planned for higher spending but settled closer to €40m: “We haven’t reached the ceiling we set for ourselves. We’ll probably add a bit in January, and we still have the right to a joker. We’re confident for the season ahead, even if it will be difficult for a promoted side.”
Ferracci also stressed that Paris FC managed to keep hold of their key players while integrating eight summer arrivals into Stéphane Gilli’s squad. After opening defeats to Angers (1-0) and Marseille (5-2), the Parisians bounced back with a 3-2 win over Metz.GFFN | George Boxall
