Manchester City have secured one of Paris Saint-Germain’s highly-rated defensive talents on a long-term contract, as per reporting from France.
The successful capture of the highly-coveted defender underlines a brilliant continuation of Manchester City’s defensive restructuring policy, and further highlights the high-regard in which the club’s academy is held amongst rising talents and their advisors.
The recruitment team are believed to have been searching for a physical profile to potentially supplement the first-team backline, and boosting options at youth level after the exit of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and an expected loans for Stephen Mfuni and Max Alleyne.
A transfer swoop into French football’s defensive starlets also comes as Manchester City finalise a long-term contract extension for Croatian international star Josko Gvardiol until the summer of 2031.
With the club also eyeing reinforcement within the first-team and its right-back position this summer, the addition of more pedigree ensures the sky blues’ defensive foundation remains secure at all levels.
Now, according to Le Parisien’s Benjamin Quarez, Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Hermann Malonga is preparing to join Manchester City after a long-standing offer to extend his contract in the French capital.
It is pointed out that an agreement has now been reached over the terms of his deal at the Etihad Stadium, with the 18-year-old defender set to sign a five-year contract with City, who have scouted him several times and see him as a player with ‘very high potential’.
Malonga is likely be integrated into Manchester City’s squad initially, according to report, before a potential loan move away from the club in the months that follow to continue his development at the top-level of the sport.
When the senior first-team squad gathers at the City Football Academy for pre-season in July, the teenage Frenchman could be among the fresh faces integrated into preliminary sessions and possibly be considered for the club’s senior pre-season tour of Asia.
This integration period will allow club coaching staff to personally evaluate Hermann Malonga’s physical capabilities and tactical understanding before perhaps sanctioning a strategic temporary switch away from the club later in the summer window.
By the time the 2026/27 Premier League campaign kicks off on the weekend of Saturday, 22 August, 2026, the foundations will be firmly laid for another superstar to rise through the club’s ranks.
