Paris Saint-Germain are ‘maybe one to watch here’ amid uncertainty at Newcastle United over the future of Alexander Isak, according to the Independent journalist Miguel Delaney.

Newcastle insist the Sweden international is not for sale as the St James’ Park club prepare for the Champions League next season, but many at the club are worried and a feeling is growing that Isak’s head has been turned.

It could take around £150 million to force the Magpies into parting ways with the 25-year-old should he insist he wants out, and PSG could be open to doing business.

While it is quite hard to put the net worth of their owners – QSI – into numbers, they are an offset of Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) – worth around £391 billion right now.

PSG have money to spend having signed Neymar from Barcelona for £200m in 2017, and splashing the cash on Isak cannot be ruled out as they look to defend their Champions League triumph next season.

However, the Ligue 1 club are currently focusing on other areas right now and it remains to be seen whether they have any concrete interest in the Newcastle star.

He still has three years left on his current deal after signing a six-year deal in 2022, and the Magpies are relaxed about things.

They could look to convince him to sign an improved deal, but it could prove tricky as he appears open to an exit and may not be keen on extending his contract.

Isak had been promised a new contract by former Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley in 2024, but former sporting director Paul Mitchell decided not to open talks given the length of his contract and their PSR position at the time making things difficult.

His agent felt insulted as a result, and he will be desperate to get his player out given that he can make much more elsewhere.
