The City of Paris announced on Wednesday exceptional measures for the closing stages of the World Cup, with bar, café and restaurant terraces allowed to stay open until two am from the quarter-finals.
The extension begins with France v Morocco on Thursday at 10pm, as a citywide plan lifts terrace curfews to two am and extends opening hours across the capital’s summer terraces.
The measure is not limited to France fixtures, remaining in place for the other three quarter-finals, the semi-finals, the third-place play-off and the final.
The aim is to let Parisians and tourists follow the World Cup’s rhythm. Of the eight matches left, only one kicks off after midnight, Argentina v Switzerland at three am in the night from Saturday to Sunday.
During France matches, two areas will be fully pedestrianised, la Roquette (11e) and the Marais (Paris Centre).
From Thursday morning, Hôtel de Ville will display two giant kakémonos, 23 metres high, in the France team’s colours.
