Parma made the perfect start at the Stadio Ennio Tardini, taking the lead after just one minute through Gabriel Strefezza. The forward finished neatly with a right-footed effort from the left side of the box into the right corner, after Nesta Elphege?s header had sent the hosts away on the break.
Despite that early blow, Napoli gradually took control of the match and dominated the ball for long spells. The visitors finished with 74% possession and 20 shots, while Parma were forced to defend deep and managed only 26% possession and three attempts at goal.
The pressure eventually told on 60 minutes, when Scott McTominay levelled the score for Napoli with a right-footed strike from the centre of the box. Rasmus Højlund provided the assist, as the visitors found the breakthrough they had been threatening for much of the second half.
Napoli were the more dangerous side overall, also ending with more corners and a higher expected-goals tally, but Parma held on for a draw. In the end, the early goal and the late response ensured the sides finished level at 1-1 in Serie A.
Parma leads Napoli 1-0. Gabriel Strefezza scores for Parma with a right-footed shot from the left side of the box into the right corner, assisted by Nesta Elphege's header after a fast break.
