Pascal Struijk has ended his eight-year Leeds United stay by completing a move to Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.
Leeds Live understands that the Whites will receive 18m up front, with add-ons potentially taking the package to 20m. A sell-on clause is included, and the deal needed to be completed before the end of June to ensure compliance with Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Struijk was out of contract next summer. He rejected new terms this summer and informed the club of his decision to leave, with Leeds working with the Dutch defender to facilitate an exit. He first arrived at Elland Road as an 18-year-old in 2018.
The centre-back had drawn interest previously but stayed put after relegation to the Championship three years ago. Leeds also resisted offers last summer, even though a sale could have been used to avoid a potential Profit and Sustainability Rules breach.
Having joined after a difficult spell at Ajax, he impressed on trial, earned a long-term deal and progressed under Marcelo Bielsa. He contributed to the promotion-winning campaign, then established himself in the Premier League the following season. He departs a double title winner and a prominent figure in the club’s recent history on and off the pitch.
