The Foxes got off to a bad start to the new season as they went down 4-0 to Manchester United last weekend. Passmoor had little time to prepare for that game following his appointment as interim boss just days earlier.
When speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Liverpool, Passmoor said that the reaction to Leicester City’s opening day defeat has been good and that the team are now looking towards the future.
“It wasn’t about defining, it was about processes and principles,” Passmoor said. “We had two sessions before that weekend game, so what I was pleased with was their reaction of disappointment on the day, after the game. It was the same when we came in on Tuesday but we supported them appropriately, highlighted areas of strength and areas to improve.
“We trained Tuesday and when we came in the next day, everything was forward-thinking with the game ahead. There has been a real good environment that has now been created by the staff and players. We’ve seen that during the week and now, it’s for them to recognise how we want to play, stick to the processes, be comfortable being uncomfortable because in this league, you will be under pressure and so on.
“I’m really pleased with their attitude and willingness to learn and adapt to a new coach, a new voice and potentially, new systems of play.”
While Passmoor is new to the Leicester City dugout, this weekend’s opponents Liverpool are also under new leadership after appointing Gareth Taylor as their new head coach over the summer. Passmoor believes that gaining momentum in the game will be key.
He said “I think what you will see is both teams trying to implement their style and their philosophy. At this part of the season, it’s about gaining momentum in the game and making the most out of that momentum. Teams are still learning, players are still working off triggers and working off each other’s behaviours, body language off the pitch.
“You’ll see passion from both teams. Both clubs have got great support and we want to see our supporters leave the ground happy with what they’ve seen on the pitch.”
Leicester City are amongst the favourites for relegation in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season but Passmoor believes that the club’s hierarchy will be fully-focused on long-term progression.
He said “When you look and you want to progress, the squad gives us a foundation, what happened last season as well. We want to progress in the right direction and I’m sure that the club have identified talent that they will be wanting to bring in during the January window or further down the line. You can’t stand still as a football club.”
