Fofana will join Porto on loan from Rennes until the end of the season, with the 31-year-old due in the city on Tuesday.

"Seko Fofana needs stability. In the past three years he has been at many clubs. He left Lens for Saudi Arabia, first Al Nassr then Al Ettifaq, returned to Rennes and was loaned to Porto," said Patrice Beaumelle, speaking to Africafoot.

"Returning to Portugal looks an interesting project, because he responded well when he was loaned there. Porto are a big club, they will play in the Champions League, and that could let him take a step if he can impose himself."

Beaumelle previously led Angola, Zambia and Ivory Coast, yet he never used Fofana in an official match. The midfielder declined a 2021 call-up, then returned to the Elephants in September 2022 after Beaumelle had left.

The agreement carries no loan fee. Porto will pay the Ivory Coast international’s wages, at a lower level than he earned at Rennes.
