FLW examine Patrick Bamford's Sheffield United wages after moving to Bramall Lane on a free transfer from Leeds. Could he retire with the Blades?
It's fair to say that former Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has settled into life at Bramall Lane under Chris Wilder with Sheffield United.
Having joined Sheffield United on an initial short-term contract in mid-November until the middle of January, he was named Championship Player of the Month for December after a run of four goals in six matches.
In the end, he extended that on the 11th of January 2026, with Bamford penning a new 18-month contract with the Blades until June 2027. That is a few months before the 32-year-old's 34th birthday in September.
Following his recent strike in the 2-1 loss to Middlesbrough, Bamford has made it eight goals in 16 games in a Sheffield United shirt. That follows the 2024/25 season with Leeds United, where Bamford failed to score once in 18 matches.
Leeds won the league and replaced the centre-forward with Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with Bamford having spent seven mixed seasons in West Yorkshire. But, now aged 32, could he now remain in South Yorkshire with the Blades until his career ends?

Upon signing, Sheffield United's official announcement claimed that within the deal there are also "opportunities to extend further" for Bamford, meaning it could well take his contract beyond 2027.
Given how long he has been in Yorkshire and in nearby Teesside, it would not be all that surprising for the 32-year-old to be keen to remain around the area until his career ends. The Sheffield United striker has a young family to consider, too.
With Chelsea having signed Bamford as a young striker, he was then without a permanent home until joining Middlesbrough. He had seven loan stints away before finding some stability in 2017 by signing for Boro permanently.
Bamford has plenty of competition at Bramall Lane for the lone striker role, with Tyrese Campbell, Danny Ings, and Tom Cannon all vying for minutes. He has made it his own, though, and it appears he has found yet another stable environment he can call home.
Coventry opted against paying Bamford his huge salary from his Leeds days, but Sheffield United were willing to pay Bamford handsomely. It's unlikely that the 32-year-old will be paid the same until the end of his career, but putting down roots could see him remain long-term.
In the twilight of his career, Bamford may well be eyeing coaching or media work in four or five years time, or perhaps sooner. However, he is paid £30,000 per week, per estimates from Capology.

Bamford helped convince Joe Rothwell and Kalvin Phillips to join Sheffield United, having played with both across his stint with Leeds. Phillips loves Bamford and has made his feelings clear on his impact already.
Having familiar faces and a dressing room he loves could also be a factor in Bamford remaining long-term. At his age, it is also possible the league Sheffield United find themselves in could be another critical factor.
Wilder has a focal point who can lead the line, run channels, and who has also found his scoring touch. That may all be short-term, but Bamford has his confidence back and that can take both him and his current side a long way for the remainder of this season.
Bamford may have lost some of his athleticism and intensity from his Leeds days, with age and particularly injuries playing a part, but that goalscoring prowess has not deserted the experienced striker, who still has what it takes to lead the line at Championship level and could continue to do so for some time.
