Patrick Kluivert has been sacked by Indonesia after the nation were unable to secure World Cup qualification.

"The termination of this cooperation was made based on the agreement of both parties, taking into account internal dynamics and the strategic direction of national team development going forward," a statement from the Indonesian FA (PSSI).

The 49-year-old had overseen a large change in Indonesian football with several Dutch players of Indonesian descent being called up for their first appearances.

Unfortunately, that didn't represent a change in the nation's footballing fortunes with Indonesia finishing bottom of its fourth round group, losing both games against Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Kluivert's coaching career has not hit the heights of his playing career, with the former striker also having stints in charge of Turkish side Adana Demirspor Demirspor and the Curaçao national team.
