Having started the season somewhat slowly, Birmingham City finally look as though they've hit their stride in the Championship.

The Blues romped to the League One title last campaign, amassing an EFL record of 111 points across the 46-game season, and upon their promotion to the Championship, many expected them to be in and amongst the top six.

Though between late August and late October, Birmingham won just two of their eight fixtures, and despite the excellent job he had done in the third tier, head coach Chris Davies started to come under some scrutiny.

But the Blues have now won four of their last six league outings, scoring 16 goals along the way, as they have seemingly finally stamped their authority on the second tier.

Following victory over Watford on Monday night, Sunderland loanee Patrick Roberts has claimed he is loving life at the club, having joined the club in the summer from the Black Cats.

Roberts, who started his career with Fulham and later signed for Manchester City for £12 million in the summer of 2015, has spent a large portion of his career out on loan, with Birmingham being the most recent club in a long list.

The Englishman has spent time with the likes of Celtic, Girona, Norwich City, Middlesbrough, Derby County, and Troyes before settling on Wearside with Sunderland in 2022, and upon their promotion to the top flight, he was made available for loan, and Birmingham snapped him up, much to the delight of Blues supporters.

There is a feel-good factor around Birmingham right now.

After years of mediocrity in the Championship, falling into League One may well have been a blessing in disguise for the Blues, allowing them to rebuild and carry the confidence of a record-breaking season into the Championship.

Birmingham sit just one place outside the play-off positions, and many fans are giving the same reaction to Patrick Roberts' interview, with the club going through one of its brightest periods in recent history.

This Blues fan is giving high praise to Roberts, who is performing to a high level week in, week out at St Andrews, and has urged the club to sign him up as soon as possible.

Roberts has nailed down the right-midfield spot as his own in Davies' side, and is receiving heaps of praise for his performances by fans.

A GIF of a contract being signed is all that needs to be shown for Birmingham fans to get their opinions across on what they believe should happen with their loanee.

This Birmingham fan is reiterating the rhetoric of many supporters at the moment, urging him to sign a permanent contract with the club amid his quality performances from the wing.

Patrick Roberts will be crucial to Birmingham City's promotion ambitions this campaign under Chris Davies

Upon signing for Birmingham, Roberts said, "I know the manager - I used to work with him when I was younger, so one phone call from him was all I needed.

"He [Davies] explained there was a creative role. I want to get on the ball and make things happen. I'll be doing what I can to bring that every week.

"I'm striving to get to the top. I did it last season and did it the hard way. I'm here to help Birmingham.

"It's another city that lives and dies by its football. That's nothing new to me. I know what it's like to play for big clubs and Birmingham are going in the right direction. It would be an honour to help."

Roberts is doing exactly what he set out to do upon his arrival, having started 11 of the 13 matches he has appeared in so far this season, scoring once and grabbing two assists.

With Demarai Gray on one wing, Marvin Ducksch as the centre-forward, and Jay Stansfield playing just behind him in the number ten position, Davies has seemingly found his best front four, leaving the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Keshi Anderson, Lyndon Dykes, and Lewis Koumas out in the cold.

Roberts will likely play a pivotal part in any promotion charge Birmingham may have this season, just as he did with Sunderland, and it's imperative to those efforts that he keeps fit and firing. If he can do that, the Blues stand every chance of a return to the top flight this season.
