Patrick Roberts completed a permanent move from Sunderland to Birmingham City on Monday, and marked his exit with a heartfelt farewell.
"It was one of those that I was eager to get done and I'm glad it's done now. We have had a good run of late, picked up some good results and it's time to kick on now for the rest of the season." He was speaking to Birmingham's official website. "I want to continue that and show the fans what I can do for the next few months and two years and hopefully get promoted. It's all positive, there's good buzz around the club at the minute and I'm glad to have signed and be a permanent player."
The winger joined in 2022 and made 147 first-team appearances, scoring nine and providing 18 assists. He helped deliver two promotions, from League One to the Championship, then back to the Premier League last year.
On social media he thanked Mackems for an incredible four years, said Sunderland had given him a home he will always appreciate, and wished the club success for the future.
His switch is a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee, following the first part of the season on loan at St Andrew's. Roberts was a key figure in Sunderland's rise, with standout moments in the 2022 play-off semi-finals and the 2025 Wembley final.
